Beef Broth Recipe

Ingredients:

About 3 pounds of beef bones
(a combination of oxtail and beef marrow bones gives the best results)
2 Carrots uncut
2 Celery stalks uncut
1 sweet green pepper
1 Whole tomato (optional)
1 Whole onion peeled
1 Small leek (clean well between the leaves)
2 cloves garlic peeled
Use enough water to cover all ingredients

Herbs and Spices:

2 tbsp salt
4 bay leaves
1 tsp whole black peppers
2 sprigs of fresh thyme

Preparation for Homemade Beef Broth Recipe:

Wash and place all bones and vegetables into a large soup pot. Cut any lengthy veggies if they don’t fit in properly. Cover the ingredients well with water and add salt.

Put the remaining herbs and spices into a spice ball and hang the ball inside of the pot, making sure the ball is in the water so that the flavors infuse into the liquid.

If you don’t have a spice ball just wrap the spices in a cheese cloth, tie with clear string and place in pot with other ingredients.

Turn the stove on high until the soup begins to boil. Reduce heat and gently simmer for 6-8 hours. No need to cover the pot.

As the soup simmers use a sieve and remove any foam that accumulates on top. Repeat as necessary. Removing the foam leaves you with a beautifully clear broth, not cloudy.

Once done remove and discard all bones and large vegetable pieces taking care not to disturb the sediment at the bottom of the pot. This also helps keep the stalk clear.

You can use this beef broth recipe instead of water for your soups, stews, gravies and when making rice. Where ever you would like a bold flavor that is also nutritious.

You can keep the broth in the fridge for about 4 days. Beef broth is freezer friendly and can last months in the freezer for convenience.

Enjoy
