December Issue # 025 - The No Dinner Diet - Could this be a blessing this holiday season?

The No Dinner Diet - Is it possible to eat whatever we want through this holiday season without gaining extra weight or perhaps even lose some?

Looks like this little pooch sure knows how to enjoy the festive season.

Holidays of any kind gives us more time to celebrate with family and friends, and with that comes an abundance of food and drink.

It seems like the bulk of the holidays are between October to January.

For some is starts off with that Halloween party, then Thanksgiving which is followed by Christmas (or similar holidays) and then we can cheer in a Happy New Year to follow.

So it's easy for many of us to eat and drink a little more this time of the year. But what would happen if we enjoyed eating but also kept the "No Dinner Diet" rule?

This might be considered the worst time of the year to try this. But on the other hand, if you can do it now, you can do it anytime.

So what is the "No Dinner Diet"?

Well the name of the diet pretty much tells us, so not much guessing is needed here.

It is basically eat like you usually do (yes even the occasional pizza) but stop eating anything after 5:00 p.m., then drink only water until the next day.

I believe Oprah Winfrey inspired this idea. It's been quite a few years ago when on one of her shows, Oprah promoted the "do not eat after 7 p.m. diet" as a way to lose weight. And you should only drink water until the next day.

Then of course people wanted to lose more weight and in a shorter amount of time and it was suggested to stop eating at 6 p.m. and eventually 5 p.m.

I had to try this diet to see if it worked and how it would make me feel, so I first started off with Oprah's challenge not to eat anything after 7 p.m.

This really wasn't much of a challenge unless you are used to eating supper after 7 o'clock. Just don't snack in the evening and drink only water if you get thirsty.

Then the bigger challenge was to stop eating at 5 o'clock. This part of the diet can be difficult as my family usually eats around 6, but I stuck to my guns and finished my last meal of the day just before the 5 o'clock dead line.

After doing this diet for 10 days, I must admit it works very well.

Here's Why the "No Dinner Diet" Works so Well:

When you only drink water after 5 o'clock you will reduce your evening calories.

You also let your body fast and your digestive system rest until the next day. This is so important if you want to lose weight.

Fasting (at anytime) helps remove toxins from the liver which in return helps improve liver function.

We know that when the liver has improved function it automatically helps with weight loss by burning fat.

Another big plus was that my stomach felt leaner. I mean it actually feels like your stomach shrinks a little bit.

Then you notice that you can't seem to eat the same amount of food. Your portion sizes become a little smaller as the days go buy. I guess you just get used to eating less because you're fasting from 5 o'clock until the next morning.

You have more energy too. Probably because your not weighed down by a full tummy in the evening hours.

And the biggest plus is yes, you actually lose weight.

Of course if you want to accelerate your weight loss then try to avoid fatty or sugary junk foods and stick more with fruits, vegetables and lean sources of protein. Also avoid overeating, when you feel full, stop eating. And to really accelerate weight loss add a little exercise to your daily routine.

With these three added efforts, your weight loss will happen much quicker.

One good thing about "the no dinner diet" is that if you choose to do this plan during the holidays, you can enjoy the extra indulging usually without any weight gain.

As always wishing you health and happiness

Have a Wonderful Holiday Season

Till Next Year
