March 2018 - Issue # 052 - Does Meditation for Weight Loss Really Work? Here’s What You Should Know.

Hi Everybody and Welcome Back

Does meditation for weight loss really work? Research has confirmed that it can benefit our lives in many ways.

It helps increase self-control and studies have shown it actually can reduce both emotional and binge eating.

It can also reduce stress and help lower high blood pressure.

Meditating really isn't hard to do, in fact it’s very relaxing and 10 - 20 minutes of meditation daily can help improve all of those things mentioned above.

One of the big pluses of meditation is that it’s a cost free strategy that can help improve the quality of life.

I LOVE that it’s COST FREE and also you can meditate anytime and just about anywhere (at home at least anyway).

What exactly is meditation?

It’s a daily process to help clear your mind and replace it with calmer, stronger and clearer thinking.

Anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes of meditation can be beneficial.

How to Meditate

There are a few different ways to meditate, but most techniques share the following:

First find yourself a quiet place where you can meditate, or as quiet as possible (depending on your situation).

Make sure you have a comfortable sitting area and try to keep your posture straight when doing so, avoid leaning on anything for support.

Even a pillow on the floor or sitting on part of the bed will do. Rest your hands palms up on your knees, or whatever hand position is most comfortable for you.

Now close your eyes and try to clear your brain of all thoughts and focus on your breathing. Try to keep as still as possible.

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth taking slow deep breaths in and also exhaling slowly.

You will soon find a breathing pattern that you will feel comfortable with. Slow and calm is key.

Even though we should try to clear our brain of any thoughts, it’s only normal that you will get thoughts during this time.

So just try to focus on your breathing and avoid those thoughts. Don’t worry, if you keep meditating on a daily basis, your focus will improve.

Use a mantra (a word or phrase) that you repeat to yourself to keep your focus while you’re breathing.

If your mind starts to wander then it’s time to start repeating your mantra to get focused again.

A mantra helps you keep focused while you meditate. Repeat your word or phrase when inhaling and exhaling.

Of course the most popular mantra choice is the sound “Ohm” or “Aum”, but your mantra can be anything you choose.

You can also choose phrases such as “I am at Peace” or “I am Loved”.

If you find repeating a word or phrase makes you feel uncomfortable, then don’t use one, just quietly focus on your breathing then.

Meditation for weight loss is definitely worth trying.

So basically you just have to find a quiet place and sacrifice about 10 to 20 minutes to do absolutely nothing except expose yourself to calm and quiet.

It’s a great feeling because many people not only feel rested but empowered at the same time.

It’s also nice to know that you can try meditating at absolutely no cost, you have nothing to lose.

If you are just starting out and not sure if meditation for weight loss is for you, why don’t you try it for 5 or 10 minutes before starting your day to see how it feels.

Also, some communities and cities offer classes on how to meditate. Whether it’s a local college or the YMCA, there may be classes available in your area.

There is also a ton of information on the internet that you can sift through for some added help.

Why it Works:

They say it helps to align (connect) the conscious and unconscious mind to agree on changes we want to apply to improve our behavior.

Perhaps we need help to control bad eating habits, or the desire to start exercising or quit smoking.

Meditation can help you become more focused on achieving your goals no matter what they may be.

Easiest Way to Incorporate Meditation Into Your Life:

Try choosing a time that best works for you and make that time just yours everyday. Even 10 minutes a day can have big benefits if you are consistent.

Conclusion:

When done on a daily basis, meditation can definitely help us strengthen our focus for a healthier lifestyle.

This would make meditation a great addition along with a healthy diet and some daily exercise for successful weight loss.

I so hope you give it a try.
