Planning on Buying a Trampoline?

Buying a trampoline can offer great fun and fitness but there are a few things you need to consider to help you choose the right one.

Who will be using it?

This first question is important because it will help determine the size of the trampoline you will want to purchase.

If you would like the convenience of working out in the comfort of your home a great way to enjoy the  benefits of trampolining is by purchasing a smaller sized rebounder.  This way, regardless of the weather, everyone in the house can get a good work out.

Many designs can be stored easily in small spaces and some are also portable.

The hope is that everyone is your family who is old enough will want to partake in the fun and improve their health.

So now you and yours just have to decide which one is the right choice as there are many types of trampolines to choose from.

Size and Shape:

The second most important question is how much space in your backyard can you dedicate to this new piece of equipment.

After all, buying a trampoline that is too big for the yard will be a huge disappointment.

Trampolines can come in some of the following shapes:

Rectangular, square, 12 sided, 8 sided (octagon) and round. Each shape also comes in a variety of sizes to choose from.

Things to consider when buying a trampoline:

Safety Features:

Frames are jointed together when assembled and there are several joint styles.

Round joints are okay but square or triangular joints are much less likely to ever come apart simply because of their shape.

All joints (no matter what style) should be screwed or bolted together for added safety.

Springs:
Make sure the springs always point downward when assembling your unit.

Covered springs are much safer than springs that are exposed.

Falling on them or between them can cause serious injury.

So look for a design which has a padding that covers the springs.

Enclosed Models:
Enclosed models come with a surrounding net and are the best choice when it comes to safety.

The most serious of accidents happen when the jumper accidentally jumps and falls right off the trampoline.

Some models even come with the enclosure poles padded which is even better.

Important Safety Tip: All small children should be supervised at all times when on the apparatus.

Price:

There are different brands, styles and sizes and they all vary in price.

As with most products purchased today the same rule applies, you get what you pay for. Quality materials do cost more.

Once you’ve decided which size trampoline is best suited for your needs then it is easier to compare prices between the different stores and manufacturers.

Here are some things to consider when it comes to quality:

  • Galvanized springs (helps prevent rusting)
  • Galvanized frame (helps prevent rusting)
  • Look for a strong tight fitting frame with solid welds
  • Is the actual bouncing surface (the bed) made of a durable polypropylene material?
  • Preferably there should be no seams across the jumping area, it should all be one piece
  • Consider your needs when it comes to warranty and customer service

Warranty and Customer Service:

The internet has made buying a trampoline much easier as it offers such a wide selection of styles and manufacturers to choose from.

As great as this is, it can also make solving warranty issues a little more difficult.

For instance if you need something repaired you don’t want to ship it two countries away to get the job done. Try to buy as local as possible.

Also ask if delivery and set up is included in the cost and if not how much extra that will be.

Warranties not only differ between manufacturers, but warranty times may differ on different parts of the trampoline.

For instance the frame could have a 10 year warranty, the bed 2 years and the springs 6 months, so read the fine print carefully.

Buying a trampoline can provide great fitness and fun but always think safety first to keep yourself and those you love protected.

Wishing you health and happiness
